The history of the holiday began on October 1, 1980, when the Chemist's Day as a holiday on the last Sunday of May was established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. The tradition of celebrating the Chemist's Day has been preserved in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus to this day. The celebrated professional holiday is among not only the most famous and festive events, but also has many traditions that each generation and the staff of each chemical company not only preserves, but also multiplies. For example, every year the Chemist's Day in Russia is held under the symbol of a new element from the periodic system of chemical elements named after D.I. Mendeleev, so in the first year of the celebration, the holiday was assigned the number 1 corresponding to the periodic system of chemical elements named after D.I. Mendeleev - hydrogen. Lanthanum is the 57th element of the periodic table of chemical elements, heads the lanthanide family, and is also a symbol of Chemist's Day 2022.
